Learn or Die

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I recently read Proverbs 21:16 and here is what it says: “A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.” (NIV)

Kind of frightening, right?

In other words, the moment you start drifting away from wisdom, the moment you start neglecting the pursuit of knowledge, the moment learning becomes unimportant to you- that is the exact moment you start going down a path that ultimately leads to your demise.

So maybe we should go after knowledge more aggressively. Maybe we should pursue wisdom more intentionally. And maybe we should never ever stop learning.

Just a thought.

Sunday Night Reflections…

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

A few things I saw / heard:

·         Amazing attendance…especially first service

·         Loved the solo that was sung “what do I know”…had a very coffee shop feel.

·         The food drive went well…we are going to deliver over 2.5 tons of food to the Warner Robins food bank…great local mission’s effort by Southside.

·         This past week our small groups gave over 17K for Missionary Christmas night!!!…It was a record high and so many groups were focused and faithful to become a blessing…THANK YOU!

o   One group had a yard sale and 100% went to Missionary Christmas

o   Another group had been putting away a few bucks each week.

·         We started a 4 part series on Prophecy today…pt.1 is the Rapture…here are a few thoughts:

o   I’m going to start wearing a cape…that way when the rapture takes place it will look like I’m Superman.

o   Marriage Supper of the Lamb…Requesting Crab Legs.

o   Millennial Reign – Requesting to live near the beach.

·         We were excited to see many come to know Christ as a result of today’s message.

Christmas Time is Here

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

I know that it’s only November 11th, but Christmas is already here in full force.

I’m not talking about the decorations that are already popping up all over town.  I’m talking about what’s happening tonight on our campus.

Once again, it’s that time of year when we decorate our stage, sing a few Christmas classics, and unload a ton of Christmas presents on our guest missionary families.

If you’re a church member or attender and you’ve never experienced “Missionary Christmas”, trust me when I say that you need to make whatever arrangements necessary to get here tonight.  It is one of the highlights of our church year.

For those of you who are reading this and can’t make it because you’re on TDY or out of town on business, here are some pictures from our Missionary Christmas last year to give you a taste of what’s in store for our families tonight.

Anyway, the fun starts at 6:30 tonight, but if you don’t show up until then, you’ll be sitting in the balcony.

Oh, and don’t forget to wear Christmas colors and be ready to celebrate!

See you tonight!!

Sunday Night Reflections…

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

 A few things I saw & heard this morning/night:

·         Music was amazing…love that new song “Healer”

·         Always good to have Ed Gibson speak at Missions Conference…does anyone have a better laugh than him?

·         I would hate to be a camera man while he preaches…that dude moves a lot!

·         It was great to see our volunteers working hard this morning…they have made our IIM vision come to life.

·         Mission Conference brochures looked great.

·         Our small groups have really stepped up to the plate with raising money for Missionary Christmas Night…in house goal for the groups were 14K…think we might hit it!

·         Tonight Ed Gibson preached…told many very funny stories about being a missionary.

·         Ed made an interesting statement that was powerful tonight… “When missionaries go and learn their culture to preach Jesus we call it wisdom, but when churches try to learn the culture we call it compromise.”  Preach Preacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

o   Remember – Culture is simply the context upon how we present Jesus.

·         Make sure your there for Missionary Christmas Night…it’s going to be awesome.

Southwide Conference Revisited

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Some of you have been asking me for a while now to post the following video.

I don’t want to take a lot of time describing it, but just know that this is how we opened up the Southwide Conference this year.

Enjoy!

And the President is…

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

In just a few short hours, our country will have a new leader.

And some people are nervous.

But not me.

Do you know why?

Because “…the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes…”  Daniel 4:17 (NIV)

Translation:  God is in control and He does whatever He wants when it comes to earthly leadership positions.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t vote or that we shouldn’t care about the election process. I think God accomplishes most of what He does in this world through people.

But at the same time, I’m also saying that Heaven rules no matter who on earth is appointed as the ruler.

So, no matter who wins, please don’t freak out.

Because God isn’t.
