We are the Champions

Where were you at 6:23 p.m. on Sunday night, August 26th, 2007?  I’ll never forget where I was.  I was on the edge of my seat with the rest of my life group watching Warner Robins face Japan to see who would be the 2007 Little League World Series Champions.  The score was 2-2 and had been that way for almost six innings (the game went into extra innings if you were one of the few people who didn’t see it- you can read the full story here).

It was soup and salad night for our life group and I was slurping up some delicious potato soup when Dalton Carriker stepped up to the plate as Warner Robins’ first batter in the bottom of the eighth inning.  All the guys in my group agreed that if anyone from either team could end this game with a walk-off homer, Carriker was the guy to do it.

And boy did he!  He took a low and outside breaking ball deep to right field and with one swing of the bat, the team from Warner Robins became the Little League World Champs by a score of 3-2.

And in that moment, when that baseball cleared the fence in Lamade Stadium, not only did all the United States fans in Williamsport rejoice, but so did everyone in living rooms all over Middle Georgia.

So, let’s give it up for our hometown boys.  After all, we are the champions!

Praise God! It was awesome! What a way to end the ballgame. I feel for the Japan team though…their hearts were broken. If I’m not mistaken they made it to the finals last year against Columbus, Ga and lost then too. I just hope they know how good they were. And…what about the sportsmanship?! Wow! We have a good bunch of boys! God Bless the team and their families.

I was standing in my living room listening to 30 or so middle school students scream as loud as they could when Dalton hit the homerun. What a great way to start off middle school small groups yesterday!

I was in my living room with our small group in GREAT prayer for the team. There were GREAT and I’m very proud of the Warner Robins team.
